Your Excellency Nader Dahabi, Prime Minister of Jordan Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the outset let me thank His Majesty King Abdullah the Second and the Government of Jordan for the warm hospitality accorded to me and my delegation. I must also say how pleased I am about the firm stand taken by His Majesty and his government in relation to the State of Palestine. It is heartening to note that peace and development in the Middle Eastern region is becoming a priority. |

His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces has arrived in the country after a two day official visit to the Kingdom of Jordan where he participated the G-11 summit. Before stepping on the Sri Lankan soil, HE paid tribute to his motherland by placing his forehead on the ground and worshiping the land he has liberated from terrorism. Troops have rescued all remaining civilians held hostage by LTTE terrorists; revealed military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara a few minutes ago today (May 17). He said that troops have rescued over 50,000 civilians during last 72 hours. |
